Terms of Use

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Oval ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. Description of Service

Oval is a personal AI companion app that provides conversational AI, memory management, notebooks, and personalized insights. The App uses a Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) model — you provide your own API keys from supported AI providers (Gemini, Mistral, Claude, OpenAI) to power conversations.

3. Account Registration

You must create an account to use Oval. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. You must provide accurate information and be at least 13 years old.

4. API Keys and Third-Party Services

Oval requires API keys from third-party AI providers to function. You are responsible for:

• Obtaining your own API keys from supported providers
• Complying with each provider's terms of service and usage policies
• Any costs incurred from your use of third-party APIs
• Keeping your API keys secure

Oval stores your API keys locally on your device and transmits them directly to the AI provider. Oval is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or conduct of third-party AI services.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use Oval to:

• Generate harmful, illegal, or abusive content
• Attempt to circumvent safety measures or content policies
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
• Use the App in any way that violates applicable laws
• Interfere with or disrupt the service or its infrastructure

6. Your Content

You retain ownership of all content you create in Oval, including conversations, memories, notebooks, and sources. By using the App, you grant Oval a limited license to process your content solely for the purpose of providing the service (e.g., generating embeddings, extracting memories, syncing across devices).

Oval does not use your content to train AI models, for advertising, or for any purpose other than delivering the service to you.

7. Memory and Data

Oval's memory system is designed to mimic human memory — information naturally decays over time unless reinforced. This is a core feature, not a bug. Memories may become less accessible or be archived as their confidence score decreases. You can manually manage, reinforce, or delete memories at any time.

8. Disclaimers

Oval is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that:

• The App will be uninterrupted or error-free
• AI responses will be accurate, complete, or appropriate
• The App is suitable for medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice

AI-generated content may contain errors or inaccuracies. Do not rely on Oval for critical decisions without independent verification.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Oval and its developers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or damages resulting from AI-generated content.

10. Termination

You may stop using Oval and delete your account at any time through the App's Settings. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

11. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the App or by email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

12. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
